Firstly, Tomis Press is very grateful to all the authors and the readers who gave us such a generous reception for the debut Spring/Summer 2026 issue of our new art & literary journal, Numinosity. Thank you all!
Time has flown, and now we’re looking forward to the next one.
Tomis Press is presently accepting submissions for the Fall/Winter 2026 issue of our art and literary journal. We are accepting entries of poetry, short stories, essays, and original artwork for this upcoming edition.
To suit the changing time of the year, our Fall/Winter theme is the opposite of our Spring/Summer theme. And, well, our Spring/Summer theme was “Love,” so logically that means, for the next one…
The Theme Is Heartache
For this issue of the art and literary journal, we’re specifically looking for your original creative work discussing or portraying themes related to dealing with the human experiences of loss, grief, heartache… and possibly mysteries.
Mysteries? What mysteries? If we told you, then it wouldn’t be a mystery: except that in this case, we’re accepting mysterious work created by writers and artists like you.
We are looking forward to compiling a compelling collection of poetry, short stories, essays, and artwork addressing these themes. We’re confident that the resulting collection featuring your work will be powerful and deeply moving.
If you’re a creative person at heart, we imagine you already have some work in your back catalog, filling up dusty old coffee-stained notebooks, stuffed in the back of some desk drawers, or relegated to various computer files that you haven’t looked at in ages: and if you have an artistic temperament, then we imagine you’ve already created some work related to our selected theme for this upcoming issue.
Share your work with the world! It’s worth taking pride in your accomplishments. Send it in today.
Feeling shy? Publish it under a pen name, we won’t tell!
The Boring Rules and Regulations
Entering is free. Contributors who supply a mailing address will receive two free copies of the printed journal. (Upon publication, additional copies will be available to the public through major online retailers at full price. Printed copies may also be made available to contributors and friends at a substantial discount for a limited time by means of a special link, please watch for the announcement.)
Submissions must be your own original work. AI-generated content is expressly prohibited. Please avoid the use of quotes or excerpts from work by other authors. We’re happy to republish your own original work that you have previously published elsewhere; please let us know if we should mention the original publication. If you have any questions about what’s allowable, please contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss your idea!
And, you know, let’s keep it kind of PG-13 or lighter, this should not be a problem for most of you. Some language is okay, but we’re not looking for anything really gory, disturbing, violent, defamatory, or unnecessarily offensive. If you’re unsure please ask, and from our perspective, if you’re the sort of person who’s considerate enough to ask, then that’s a good sign.
Entry deadline is September 15… but if you’re a member of the Writers Group at Jesse’s local library, or if you ask really nicely, then we’ll probably extend the deadline by a week or so, just for you. That said, from our perspective, we love early entries, so send in yours today!
Numinosity is made possible by our sponsor, Jan A. Soloy, who offers online wellness courses that may be interesting to you, so please check out her website.
Additional sponsorship opportunities are also available, so if you’re interested, please let us know, we’d love to hear from you!
How to Enter?
If you saw or received a bookmark/flyer or a business card, please send your entry to the email address listed there. If you are connected with Jesse through LinkedIn or Instagram, please contact him there. All others please connect with JesseSmithBooks through LinkedIn to get started. We’re looking forward to hearing from you, cheers! Have a great day.
What Does “Numinosity” Mean?
“Numinosity” is the noun form of “Numinous,” which was incidentally featured as the New York Times word of the day some six weeks or so after the first issue of Numinosity was released.
We define “Numinosity” as:
a state of being filled with a creative spirit or energy, guiding force or principle; spiritual elevation, transcendence, or sublimity.
What Is A “Tomis Press”?
Oh, hi, we’re Tomis Press, nice to meet you. We’re a relatively new hybrid publishing house, in that we only recently began accepting work from other authors, after originally founding the imprint in 2021 as as a high-end branded channel for poetry, literature, and motivational titles produced in-house (as opposed to the low-end pulp fiction and indie/alt rock we continue to churn out through our parent company’s “alternative media” channel, Basementia).
Tomis Press is excited to begin working with other authors, and we look forward to telling you more! We enjoy working with independent and emerging authors and creators: so please contact us with questions. Whether you’re looking for publication help, editing assistance, or just some motivational tips to help you complete your first draft, we want to see you succeed.
Tomis Press is named after the remote town on the forbidding Black Sea where the poet Ovid (author of Metamorphoses) was exiled by the Emperor Augustus Caesar some two thousand years ago. Ovid’s poetry written during his time in exile remains an enduring testimony to the power of the human spirit to channel our heartbreak and loss into great works of art: and to the power of great art to connect humans to one another, across great distances and even vast spans of time.
